The State Working Caretaker Committee of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) Bayelsa State has received and reviewed the announcement of the resignation of His Excellency, Governor Douye Diri, along with some members of the State House of Assembly, and few other party members of the Party across the State. The announcement was made today from the Executive Council Chambers of the State Government House in Yenagoa, in the presence of the Rt. PDP National Secretary Denounces Purported Caretaker Committee in Akwa Ibom and Cross River States

In a strongly worded press statement dated October 1, 2025, Senator Samuel N. Anyanwu, the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has officially decried the formation of caretaker committees for Akwa Ibom and Cross River States, denouncing recent purported National Working Committee (NWC) resolutions as unconstitutional. The letter, addressed to the National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, highlights a series of infractions against the PDP constitution (2017 as Amended). Senator Anyanwu asserts that duties like issuing notices for meetings and implementing resolutions fall strictly within the remit of the National Secretary’s office, as mandated by Section 36 (1) b and e of the PDP constitution. The South South Zonal Working Committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed recent claims credited to the Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Debo Ologunagba, regarding the alleged dissolution of the Akwa Ibom and Cross River States Chapter Executives. In a strongly worded statement issued on Wednesday, by Prince Etim Isong, Zonal Publicity Secretary of the PDP, South South Zone, the leadership declared that the alleged dissolution was “unfounded and purely fabrications born from his own imagination.” The Zone emphasized that the purported statement by Ologunagba not only violates due process but also undermines the collective decision-making process of the PDP as enshrined in its constitution.
