PDP Crisis: Eminent Leaders and Concerned Stakeholders Issue Six Demands Ahead of Convention

The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a new twist on Tuesday, as eminent leaders and concerned stakeholders of the party issued a strongly worded communique outlining six key demands ahead of the party’s proposed national convention. In the communiqué, signed by former Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, on behalf of the group, the stakeholders cautioned that failure by the party leadership to urgently address the issues raised would have dire consequences. According to them, “failure to meet these demands would render any purported national convention invalid, as legitimate members of the party would be disenfranchised.” The PDP heavyweights outlined the following demands: Fresh congresses must be held in Ebonyi and Anambra States , in strict compliance with subsisting court judgments. Bayelsa Education Ministry Denies Alleged Deductions from Contractors’ Payments

The clarification follows a report published in the Niger Delta Herald between July 16 and 22, 2025, with the headline “Contractors Lament Alleged Deductions by Ministry Officials in Bayelsa.” According to the Ministry, all payments to contractors are executed strictly in line with contractual terms, financial regulations, and due process. It added that deductions, where applicable, are limited to statutory obligations such as taxes, pension contributions, and contractually agreed retentions. The Ministry emphasised that it operates a transparent and accountable system with multiple oversight layers to ensure fairness, insisting that no official is empowered to make arbitrary deductions. NLC ISSUES 7-DAY STRIKE NOTICE ON NSITF, PENCOM, OTHERS

The NLC at the end of its central working committee meeting in Abuja said a total short down will begin next week except the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust fund, NSITF accounts for and return all alleged diverted 40% funds contributed by workers within seven working days. The NLC, in a communique signed by its president, Joe Ajaero, said it is outrage at the ongoing assault on workers' social protection rights through the federal government's alleged diversion of 40% of workers' contributions to the national coffers as "revenue" in flagrant violation of the statutes establishing the NSITF.
