Nigeria at 65, Bayelsa at 29: GGM Calls for Unity, Renewal, and Good Governance
Yenagoa – As Nigeria marks its 65th Independence Day anniversary and Bayelsa State celebrates 29 years of creation, the Director-General of the Grassroots Galvanization Movement (GGM), Hon. Ebisele Azibalua Oyabara, has called on Nigerians and Bayelsans to use the occasion to reflect on the sacrifices of the past and commit to building a united and prosperous future.
In a goodwill message made available to newsmen, Hon. Oyabara described the dual celebration as “a profound reminder of how far we have come, the sacrifices of our heroes past, and the collective responsibility that rests upon us to build a country and a state that truly reflect the aspirations of our citizens.”
He noted that despite the challenges, Nigeria remains a country of immense potential.
“Nigeria at 65 remains a nation of great promise; endowed with human capital, rich cultural heritage, and abundant natural resources. Yet, these blessings can only translate into progress when anchored on unity, justice, and purposeful leadership. It is therefore incumbent on all leaders, across all levels of government, to rise above self-interest and prioritize policies and programs that directly impact the lives of ordinary Nigerians,” Oyabara said.
Turning attention to Bayelsa State, he emphasized the need for visionary and inclusive governance to harness its vast resources.
“As Bayelsa clocks 29, we must reflect deeply on our peculiar history and vast potential. Our state, blessed with enormous natural resources and strategic importance in the Niger Delta, must harness its opportunities through visionary leadership, grassroots development, and inclusive governance. Bayelsa deserves a future where every child has access to education, every youth has opportunities, and every community feels the impact of governance”.
The GGM Director-General reaffirmed the group’s commitment to grassroots mobilization, stressing that development must be people-driven.
“The Grassroots Galvanization Movement is committed to this cause. We believe that development begins at the grassroots and that politics must be about people, not personal ambition. As such, we reaffirm our readiness to mobilize, sensitize, and build structures that will usher in a new dawn of accountable leadership, both in Bayelsa and Nigeria at large,” he noted.
Hon. Oyabara used the occasion to urge citizens to renew their dedication to the ideals of unity and peace.
“On this day, I call on all Bayelsans and Nigerians to renew their commitment to nation-building. Let us set aside divisive tendencies, embrace unity in diversity, and work collectively to advance the ideals of democracy, peace, and development,” he said.
He concluded with prayers for the state and the nation: “May the labours of our heroes past never be in vain, and may God continue to bless and guide Nigeria and Bayelsa State into greater heights.”
