Yenagoa, Bayelsa State – A former Chairman of Ojobo Federated Community in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State, Asiro Nisama, has called on youths across the Niger Delta to harness their God-given talents to promote the cultural values and unity of the Ijaw nation.

Nisama made the call during the 46th birthday celebration and book launch of renowned Ijaw music icon, King Dr. Alfred Izonebi, held in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State.

Describing Yenagoa as the "Jerusalem of the Ijaw nation," the two time community leader commended the high-profile turnout of dignitaries at the event, which included top government officials, captains of industry, business moguls, and traditional leaders from far and near.

According to him, Dr. Alfred Izonebi has not only taken over the mantle of Ijaw musical leadership from his late mentor, King Robert Ebizimo: the Numu Pere of Ijaw Nation, but has also elevated Ijaw music to greater heights, earning recognition across Nigeria and beyond.

“With what Dr. Alfred Izonebi has achieved in Ijaw music, I proudly address him as the musical King of the Ijaw Nation—Numu Pere II,” Nisama declared. “He is not singing merely for personal gain but is using his gift to promote the Ijaw identity and place our people on the global cultural map.”

He emphasized that if Ijaw youths integrate the values and identity of their heritage into their professions, the Ijaw name will continue to command respect and admiration across Nigeria’s ethnic landscape.

Nisama further encouraged Ijaw youths to emulate exemplary figures such as High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (Tompolo), who has placed Ijaw land on the national stage through his activism and the globally recognized Amaseikumor Festival held annually in Oporoza, Delta State.

He also cited the late General Andrew Owoye Azazi, a distinguished Ijaw son who rose to become Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, and former President Goodluck Jonathan, who started as Deputy Governor in Bayelsa before ascending to the highest office in the country.

Expressing delight over the impressive presence of dignitaries at the celebration, Asiro said it was a testament to Dr. Izonebi’s growing influence both within and outside Ijaw land.

He also used the occasion to thank individuals and institutions that have supported the music icon over the years, including Engr. Matthew Tonlagha, Managing Director of Matons Nigeria Ltd, and High Chief Engr. Kestin Ebimobowei Pondi, the Ibe-Ebidowei of Gbaramatu Kingdom and Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd.

He lauded their efforts in projecting Ijaw culture and values among other ethnic nationalities, adding that such contributions will not go unrewarded.

“Even if not today, surely one day, their rewards will come, both from God and from history, for promoting the Ijaw struggle and cultural identity,” Nisama stated.

The colourful event marked yet another milestone in Dr. Izonebi’s journey as a cultural ambassador, with attendees celebrating not just a birthday but the enduring spirit of Ijaw heritage expressed through music, literature, and tradition.
