YENAGOA — The Acting Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State, Hon. George Turnah, MON, has described the appointment of Hon. Aaron Chukwuemeka as Federal Commissioner representing Rivers State in the Federal Character Commission (FCC) by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as “well-deserved and a testament to his unwavering commitment to public service.”
In a statement issued in Yenagoa on Tuesday by Kelvin Loveday-Egbo his Media Assistant, Turnah said Chukwuemeka’s elevation reflects not only his individual track record but also his deep dedication to the principles and ideals of the PDP.
“This well-deserved appointment is a testament to Hon. Chukwuemeka’s unwavering commitment to public service and his dedication to the principles of our great party, the PDP,” Turnah stated.
The PDP chieftain also congratulated Hon. Sir Tonye Okio Ph.D on his reappointment for a second term as Federal Commissioner representing Bayelsa State in the FCC, noting that Okio’s return is crucial in advancing Bayelsa’s interests at the federal level.
“I am optimistic that Hon. Okio’s continued service is vital to advocating for Bayelsa’s interests, and I appreciate his dedication to ensuring fair representation,” he said.
Turnah emphasized that the Federal Character Commission plays a critical role in promoting equity, fairness, and inclusivity in Nigeria’s governance architecture, and he expressed confidence that both appointees will justify the trust reposed in them.
“These appointments mark significant steps forward in fostering equity and inclusivity. I am confident that both Hon. Chukwuemeka and Hon. Okio will excel in their roles, contributing positively to the governance and development of our country, Nigeria,” he added.
The FCC is constitutionally mandated to ensure that appointments, promotions, and distribution of opportunities in the public service reflect the country’s federal character, avoiding dominance by any ethnic or sectional group.
Political observers note that the appointments of Chukwuemeka and Okio come at a time when representation and fairness in federal appointments remain central to Nigeria’s unity and stability.
Turnah concluded his statement with best wishes for the two leaders, describing their roles as “a journey of nation-building and service to humanity.”
The appointments were among a new set of designations approved by President Tinubu, aimed at strengthening the Commission’s mandate across the six geopolitical zones.
