PDP Bayelsa Caretaker Committee Reaffirms Commitment to Party Growth, Appoints Interim Secretary, Sets Agenda for Secretariat Commissioning
YENAGOA, BAYELSA – The Bayelsa State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has reiterated its unwavering commitment to the growth and repositioning of the Party in the state, as well as the welfare of its members across all levels.
This resolution formed part of the key outcomes of the State Working Committee (SWC) meeting of the PDP Caretaker Committee, held on Monday in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital. The meeting, convened under the leadership of the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Hon. Barr. George Turnah, MON, witnessed the deliberation of critical issues aimed at advancing the Party’s strategic goals and consolidating its grassroots presence.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting and signed by Alasuote Wright, the Acting State Publicity Secretary, the Committee highlighted four major resolutions, with emphasis on strengthening internal structures, effective leadership, and the activation of operational mechanisms.
The Committee reaffirmed its “dedication to working diligently for the advancement of the Party and the welfare of its ever-growing membership in Bayelsa State.” This renewed vow, Party leaders noted, signals the PDP’s readiness to not only maintain its stronghold in the state but also to expand its appeal through inclusive politics and transparent governance.
High commendations were directed at the Caretaker Committee Chairman, Hon. George Turnah, MON, who was lauded by the Committee for his “exceptional leadership and proactive approach in repositioning the Party for future political successes.” Members cited his dynamic leadership style, grassroots engagement, and efforts toward reconciliation and mobilization as key drivers of the Party’s renewed strength in Bayelsa.
In a significant move aimed at enhancing administrative cohesion, the Committee formally approved the appointment of Hon. Ato Alfreda as the Interim Secretary of the Bayelsa State PDP Caretaker Committee. Her appointment, described as strategic and timely, entrusts her with the “vital role of spearheading the operations of the Secretariat of the Party.”
Hon. Alfreda is expected to bring her wealth of political experience and organizational skill to bear, particularly in the coordination of secretarial functions and communication across party organs.
As part of ongoing efforts to consolidate the Party’s institutional presence in Bayelsa, the meeting mandated Hon. Alfreda to “initiate immediate preparations for the commissioning of the newly acquired PDP State Secretariat in Yenagoa.”
This step, the communiqué emphasized, is “crucial for enhancing the Party’s operational capacity and outreach,” noting that a central and fully functional Secretariat would serve as the nerve center of PDP’s activities and programs in the state.
The Committee concluded the meeting with a clarion call for unity, urging all Party stakeholders, members, and supporters to close ranks and collaborate in the interest of growth, peace, and progress.
“The Committee emphasizes unity and collaboration among all members as it moves forward in the spirit of growth and development,” the communiqué stated.
This latest development is seen as part of broader internal reforms being championed by the current Caretaker Committee led by Hon. Barr. George Turnah, MON to reenergize the Party’s base, attract new supporters, and retain its dominance in the political landscape of Bayelsa State.
