FCT Minister Nyesom Wike Holds Emergency Meeting, Insists Sam Anyanwu Must Continue as PDP National Secretary

ABUJA — The Federal Capital Territory, FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has strongly reaffirmed that Senator Sam Anyanwu must remain as the National Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), citing a Supreme Court ruling that recognizes Anyanwu as the legitimate holder of the office.

Wike stated this during an emergency meeting with PDP stakeholders from across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at his residence in Abuja to address the ongoing internal crisis within the party.

Minister Wike argued that the Supreme Court had clearly endorsed Anyanwu’s position as the authentic National Secretary of the PDP and that any moves to remove him should await the party convention scheduled for later in the year.

The FCT Minister emphasized the importance of adhering to the party constitution to maintain internal harmony.

The Minister pointed to historical precedence in party politics, highlighting that Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State did not resign from his position as the state party chairman when he ran for the governorship in 2023.

He noted that Kefas only resigned after winning the election, reinforcing his argument that the National Secretary was within his rights to remain in office while contesting the Imo governorship race.

Wike called for strict adherence to the PDP’s constitution, stressing that any actions aimed at removing the National Secretary without due process would undermine the sacrifices of the party’s founding fathers.

He called on stakeholders to respect the rule of law and work towards party unity.

“Our strength as a party lies in our ability to stay true to our constitution. We cannot afford to deviate from the principles that have sustained us through the years,” Wike stated.

The meeting, attended by various party leaders and officials, highlights the ongoing internal power struggles and the need for resolution ahead of the 2027 elections.
