Bayelsa PDP Commends Wike, G5 for Convening Abuja Meeting; Reaffirms Commitment to Resolutions

Yenagoa - The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State, led by Acting State Chairman George Turnah, MON, has expressed deep appreciation to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike CON, and members of the G5 for their leadership in convening a crucial meeting on Monday, June 9, 2025.

The meeting, which gathered prominent party leaders and stakeholders in Abuja, was hailed as a significant step towards the survival and unity of the PDP.

In a press statement signed by Acting State Publicity Secretary, Derri Alasuote Wright, the Bayelsa PDP emphasized that the meeting was a reflection of Wike's strong commitment to the principles of the party and his continued advocacy for justice within the PDP.

The statement reads: “This meeting, which brought together eminent leaders and concerned stakeholders of the party, is a testament to the unwavering love Wike has for the PDP and his relentless fight for justice against impunity. His dedication to the party's principles stands him out and has endeared him strongly to all genuinely committed members of the Party nationwide.”

The Bayelsa PDP reiterated its full endorsement of the decisions made at the Abuja meeting, particularly the resolution regarding the National Secretary position.

The statement affirmed: “We fully endorse the resolutions reached at the meeting, and as a State Chapter, we stand by our recognition of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary of the PDP, and to state that there is no vacancy requiring any replacement whatsoever.”

This stance is backed by the PDP’s Constitution and a recent Supreme Court ruling, which the Bayelsa chapter referred to as "clear and unambiguous" on the matter.

Additionally, the Barr. Turnah-led Bayelsa PDP lent its unwavering support to the decision to zone the PDP’s presidential ticket for the 2027 elections to the Southern region.

According to the statement, this strategic move demonstrates the party's commitment to inclusivity and fairness, ensuring that the voices of all Nigerians are heard.

The statement highlighted: “This strategic move does not just demonstrate our commitment to inclusivity and fairness. It also ensures that our party remains attuned to the voices of all Nigerians.”

Concluding the statement, the Bayelsa PDP reaffirmed its loyalty to the resolutions of the Abuja meeting, pledging continued support for Nyesom Wike as the party’s national leader.

The statement emphasized the party’s determination to move forward with renewed strength: “Bayelsa State PDP reaffirms its loyalty to the resolutions of this meeting and remains steadfast in its support for Nyesom Wike as our national leader, as well as our endorsement of Samuel Anyanwu as the National Secretary. Together, we will forge ahead with renewed vigour to restore the PDP to its rightful place as a beacon of hope and justice for our people and nation.”
