...celebrates with Ekerefe Family, Visits Orubebe
Yenagoa, Nigeria —
The Acting Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Bayelsa State, Barr. Alabh George Turnah, MON, has expressed deep concern over the growing wave of insecurity in the state following the brutal killing of a young man, Festus Tony, by assailants in Igbogene Community, Yenagoa Local Government Area.
Barr. Turnah, who led members of the PDP State Caretaker Committee on a condolence visit to the bereaved family on Sunday, June 1, described the incident as "painful and unacceptable," urging security agencies and the state government to take immediate and decisive action.
"It is both painful and unacceptable that a young and promising life like Festus Tony’s could be cut short in such a brutal and senseless manner," Turnah said during the visit. "As a party and as citizens, we demand that the government and law enforcement agencies act swiftly to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of this heinous act."
According to a statement by Kelvin Loveday-Egbo, his Media Assistant, the PDP chairman also called for increased community collaboration in addressing insecurity.
He urged traditional institutions, youth groups, and community leaders to work closely with security agencies by providing timely and useful information that could help avert further violence and safeguard lives and property.
Mrs. Mawulu Tony, the grieving mother of the slain youth, expressed appreciation for the visit and described it as a source of comfort during her moment of pain.
"Your coming here today has brought some relief to our hearts. Thank you for standing with us," she said tearfully.
Barr. Turnah reiterated the PDP’s solidarity with the Tony family, assuring them of the party’s continued support as they navigate their grief.
Celebration and Solidarity Visits
In a contrasting moment of joy, Barr. Turnah also led members of the party’s State Working Committee on a congratulatory visit to Mr. and Mrs. Ebilade Ekerefe, following the recent birth of their child.
The visit, which took place at the couple’s residence, was filled with prayers and well-wishes. Turnah expressed gratitude to God for the safe delivery and prayed for the newborn’s health and bright future.
Mr. Ekerefe, who currently serves as the Acting State Secretary of the PDP, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Chairman and the delegation for sharing in their joy. “It means a lot to us that you took the time to be here. Thank you for your love and support,” he said.
Appreciation Visit to Longtime Ally
Earlier, Barr. Turnah paid a surprise visit to his longtime friend and political associate, Mr. Zenebo Orubebe, popularly known as "Minister." The visit was described by Turnah as a show of appreciation for Orubebe’s enduring friendship and unwavering support over the years.
Mr. Orubebe expressed delight at the Chairman’s gesture. “Your visit has made my day. Thank you for remembering and honouring our friendship,” he said.
The series of visits underscore Barr. Turnah’s commitment to grassroots engagement, community support, and the PDP’s renewed drive for a responsive and people-centered leadership in Bayelsa State.
