Turnah Celebrates Nigerian Children, Calls for Greater Investment in Their Protection, Education, and Empowerment


As nations around the world mark Children’s Day 2025, the Acting Chairman of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State, Barr. Alabh George Turnah, MON, has issued a powerful message advocating for the protection, education, and empowerment of the Nigerian child.


In a heartfelt statement released in Yenagoa, the PDP leader described children as “not only a blessing but the foundation upon which the future of any society is built.” He emphasized that this special day should serve as a time for deep reflection on the collective duty of stakeholders—from families to institutions—to prioritize the well-being of children.


“The Bayelsa State Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) under my leadership believes and emphasizes that the welfare of children must be a top priority for families, communities, governments, and institutions,” Turnah stated. “Quality education, sound healthcare, safety, and emotional support are not privileges, they are rights every child deserves.”


He urged parents to raise their children with love, discipline, and strong moral values, while challenging all levels of government to uphold policies that guarantee free and quality education and promote child development.


Turnah also used the occasion to strongly condemn all forms of child labour, abuse, and molestation, describing them as inhumane acts that “must be met with the full weight of the law.”


“Our children must be protected from harm and empowered to dream and become responsible leaders of tomorrow,” he said. “A society that fails to invest in its children is a society that fails itself.”


Turnah concluded with a call to action: “Let us recommit to building a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment for every Nigerian child.”


The PDP Stalwart extended warm wishes to children across the nation, saying: “Once again, Happy Children's Day!”
