Yenagoa / Ado-Ekiti — Senator Seriake Dickson, representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District, has expressed grief over the death of former Military Administrator of Bayelsa State, Navy Captain Omoniyi Caleb Olubolade (Rtd.), who passed away in Ekiti State at the age of 71.

In a condolence message issued on behalf of his family and the people of Bayelsa West, Sen. Dickson extended sympathies to the late administrator’s immediate family, Governor Biodun Oyebanji, the government and people of Ekiti State, as well as to Bayelsans, “whom Olubolade served with distinction during the nascent years of the state.”

"Capt. Olubolade became one of us,” Dickson recalled, noting that the retired naval officer’s tenure (1997-1998) laid crucial administrative foundations for Bayelsa. “Even after leaving office, he continued to identify with Bayelsa with pride; at his 70th birthday in Yenagoa last year, I described him as a Bayelsan in spirit, and he accepted that honour with joy."

The former governor said Olubolade’s legacies include the early civil-service structures and community-based outreach programmes that stabilized the new state shortly after its creation in 1996.

Sen. Dickson prayed for the repose of the departed officer’s soul and asked God to grant the bereaved family and the governments and peoples of both Ekiti and Bayelsa States, the fortitude to bear the loss.
