Elebele, Bayelsa State – In a gesture aimed at strengthening civil-military relations and promoting educational development, the 16 Brigade of the Nigerian Army has donated over 100 desks and chairs to the Community Comprehensive Secondary School, Elebele, located in the Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

Speaking during the official handover ceremony, the Commander of the 16 Brigade, Brigadier General Oluremi Obolo, who was represented by the Assistant Chief of Staff, Lt. Col. Kazeem Onakoya, said the donation was part of the Army’s efforts to support host communities and foster lasting partnerships.

“The doors of the Brigade are always open to render needed support in order to maintain a mutual relationship with our host communities,” he stated while presenting the furniture to the school authorities.

The gesture was met with overwhelming gratitude from community leaders and students alike. The Paramount Ruler of Elebele Community, His Royal Highness David Osene Osene, and the Principal of the school both expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Nigerian Army, describing the intervention as timely and impactful.

President of the National Union of Elebele Students, Okala Ambrose, speaking on behalf of the student body, also lauded the Army for what he described as a “show of love.” Many of the students said, “this is the first time we are benefiting from such a gesture since gaining admission into the school.”

The school used the occasion to call on the Bayelsa State government, corporate bodies, and well-meaning Nigerians to emulate the Army’s example and come to the aid of the institution in addressing its numerous challenges including the renovation of the dilapidated school facility, provision of more learning gadgets, setting up of a standard ICT centre and a laboratory amongst others.

The donation marks a significant step in the Nigerian Army’s continued efforts to strengthen its ties with civilian populations and contribute to national development through community-focused initiatives.
