The Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria has posthumously honoured the late founder of Daar Communications Plc, High Chief Raymond Aleogho Dokpesi, for his pioneering contributions to the Nigerian media industry and his unwavering support for the Catholic Church.

The recognition came during the 2025 edition of the Catholic Church’s Communications Week held in Abuja, where clergy, media professionals, scholars, and dignitaries gathered to celebrate the role of media in nation-building and peace promotion.

In a solemn yet celebratory atmosphere, the award was presented to members of the Dokpesi family and senior management of Daar Communications Plc, who expressed deep gratitude for the honour bestowed on the late media icon.

The event served as a reflection on the enduring legacy of Dokpesi, who was praised for shaping both the present and the future of broadcasting in Nigeria.

Delivering his keynote address, the CBCN Episcopal Chairman for Social Communications, Bishop David Ajang, underscored the critical role of ethical journalism in shaping public discourse and fostering peace in a nation challenged by insecurity and disinformation.

Bishop Ajang also reaffirmed the Catholic Church's commitment to responsible communication, emphasizing that the Communications Week—an initiative embraced by the Vatican and African Bishops Conferences—remains a cornerstone of Catholic media advocacy.

This year’s Communications Week runs across Catholic dioceses in Nigeria and around the world until June 1, which marks World Communications Day.

The theme for 2025, as declared by Pope Francis, is: “Media with Gentleness: A Path to Being Narrators of Hope in a Distressed Nation.”

The celebration aims to encourage media practitioners to uphold values of truth, empathy, and hope while contributing to national healing and unity.
