In a renewed push to boost entrepreneurship and support small business growth, the Niger State Government has successfully concluded a three-day intensive training for 50 young professionals, including first-class graduates drawn from the Association of Niger State First Class Students.

The programme, held under the auspices of the Office of the Special Adviser on Social Investment Programme, aims to build a new cadre of Business Development Service Providers (BDSPs) across the 25 local government areas of the state.

The initiative is part of a broader strategy to equip young people with the tools needed to drive local enterprise development.

Facilitated by the Enterprise Development Centre of the Pan-Atlantic University, the training exposed participants to core areas of business planning, operations management, human resources, and entrepreneurial diagnostics.

Speaking during the closing ceremony, Hauwa Bako, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Social Investment, emphasized the administration’s commitment to inclusive economic development.

She noted that the programme is fully funded by the state government and designed to ensure that every LGA has access to professional business advisory services.

“Our goal is to empower these young minds with the skills and knowledge to support and nurture small businesses within their communities. This is a critical part of our drive to strengthen the MSME ecosystem in Niger State,” Bako stated.

One of the beneficiaries, Mohammed Mohammed, Vice Chairman of the People with Disabilities, described the training as “interactive, impactful, and educational,” lauding the government for the inclusive and forward-thinking initiative.

Facilitator Adegboyega Adebanjo added that beyond technical skills, the training enhances participants’ analytical abilities and prepares them to act as business consultants capable of steering local enterprises toward sustainability.

At the end of the programme, participants received certificates and access to ongoing virtual mentorship, ensuring continued support as they step into their roles as Business Development Service Providers.

This initiative marks another step by the Niger State Government to not only invest in its human capital but also stimulate grassroots economic growth through youth-led enterprise support.
