BAYELSA PDP POSTPONES SECRETARIAT OPENING, REAFFIRMS RESPECT FOR GOVERNOR’S OFFICE
Yenagoa, Bayelsa State — May 24, 2025
The Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bayelsa State Chapter, under the leadership of Barr. George Turnah, MON, convened an emergency meeting on the night of Friday, 23rd May 2025, in Yenagoa to address urgent issues concerning the Party’s activities and schedule.
After detailed deliberations, the Committee resolved to postpone the official opening of the Party’s new State Secretariat in Yenagoa, earlier scheduled for Monday, 26th May 2025.
The decision was made in light of the upcoming National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Party, slated for Tuesday, 27th May 2025.
A communique signed by Derri Alasuote Wright, Acting State Publicity Secretary notes that “This postponement is necessary due to the scheduling of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Party,” urging all Party faithful, supporters, and members of the public to take note of the change. The Party expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the adjustment in schedule.
In a significant resolution, the Committee also emphasized the need to uphold and protect the dignity of the office of the Governor of Bayelsa State, describing it as “a revered institution (that) must be accorded the desired and deserved respect at all times.”
The communiqué further declared that the PDP in Bayelsa, under Barr. George Turnah’s leadership, “will henceforth not rise in defense of any official or individual found wanting or expressing views that undermine the exalted office of the Governor of Bayelsa State.”
This stance also applies to “unguarded statements or public commentary tailored toward disparaging or disrespecting the person and office of the Governor.”
The Committee reaffirmed its duty to “protect and safeguard the sanctity of the office of the Governor of Bayelsa State, who doubles as the leader of the Party in the State.”
It added that this same respect should extend to the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the leadership of the Party at all levels.
The Party called on all members, supporters, and affiliates to uphold the highest standards of decorum, discipline, and responsibility in their conduct, especially in public engagements.
“The Committee, therefore, charges Party faithful to commit to reinforcing solidarity and respect within our ranks as we work towards our common goals,” the statement concluded.
