Akpabio Tackles Peter Obi, Urges Him to Resolve Labour Party Crisis Before Criticizing Nigeria
President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has taken a swipe at former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over recent comments questioning the state of Nigeria and the legacy of past heroes.
Obi, while speaking at a memorial lecture in honour of elder statesman Pa Edwin Clark in Abuja on Wednesday, lamented that “the labours of our heroes past are now in vain.”
He also questioned the silence of individuals who protested against former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration over a fuel price hike from N87 to N120, asking whether those voices had gone silent
Responding on Thursday during a valedictory session in honour of late Edwin Clark in the Senate, Akpabio criticized Obi for his remarks, urging him to demonstrate leadership by first resolving the internal crisis within the Labour Party, which he described as “one of the smallest parties in Nigeria.”
He further stated that a man who aspires to lead Nigeria should first show the capacity to unite and manage his own political party,”
Akpabio stated that if Peter Obi cannot resolve a party crisis, how then can he resolve the issue of Boko Haram or other national challenges
Akpabio rejected the notion that the efforts of Nigeria’s past heroes were in vain, stressing that the country’s continued unity is evidence of their enduring legacy.
He added that There are countries the size of Nigeria that are now fragmented, but Nigeria remain together, and that is not by accident
The Senate President also warned against the misuse of social media, noting that some individuals spreading misinformation were not even born during the time of elder statesmen like Clark.
He accused Obi of using his platform to sow division
Akpabio concluded by saying that the advice he offered Obi is the kind of counsel Pa Edwin Clark himself would have given if he were alive.
